Three indie folk tunes with pop elements that make them stand out

Claire Hawkins – “Bad”
-I really appreciate the quality of Claire Hawkins’ voice on this track. The lyrics are easy to follow and connect with. There’s a poetic sincerity to the track that makes it emerge from the crowd. Hawkins seems like the kind of songwriter who is good at making observations of reality that punctuate the song. The atmospheric piano work helps to create a sense of depth, but the production enhances the vocal rather than distracting from it. It’s a contemplative style that’s sure to find a following among our readers who appreciate good writing and quality vocals.

Yellofox – “Feels Like a Malibu Day To Me”
-Harmonies. Can I just end the review there? Harmonies. I love the quality of this song and the harmonies are the reason why. The energy has a timelessness to it that I admire. The overall vibe of the song definitely resonates with the type of indie folk I enjoy curating. I’d love to stand in the crowd and sing along with this group. The echoes of classic 60s folk and rock elements are evident immediately. If you’re a fan of feel-good pop folk rock music, give Yellofox and listen. This is the perfect track for a feel-good adventure playlist.

Benji Katz – “Still Young”
-This is a song about friendship with an endearing songwriting charm. Something about it reminds me a little of John Prine or Kris Kristofferson’s songwriting style. “Standing on the shoulders of memories too precious to recall… we’ve come too far to fall.” Wow, that’s a great sentiment. The steel guitar adds a bit of texture that makes it pop nicely as well. The genre blend works well on this one. As I told a friend, it’s got common sense wisdom that makes the song feel approachable and enjoyable. The clever wordplay on this song will make anyone smile. I’m grinning ear to ear writing this review. What a gem!
