Three indie pop tracks to inspire you this early Autumn season

Haley Johnsen – “Goner”
-IF you’re a fan of soulful vocals and a chill vibe, check out Haley Johnsen’s new track “Goner.” I was immediately blown away by the quality of the vocals and the easy going melody on this track. It’s got a superb indie pop flavor to it that makes me want to listen then click to play it again immediately after. Some of the elements in the backing track feel like they could have been recorded in the 60s, yet the overall energy definitely has a contemporary electro-rooted vibe to them. It’s a really nice feel good track that you should definitely consider for your own pop playlists.

Steve Stout – “Make you mine”
-Something about Steve Stout’s music reminds me of a lot of pop folk acts we’ve covered over the years (especially Ivan and Alyosha). There’s a magnetic energy that holds the track together with quality guitars, a moving rhythm section, and an inviting lead vocal. The lyrical concept of wanting to be with someone but not really knowing what you have to offer makes a lot of sense. It’s relatable and accessible with an easy to hum along melody. This track has tons of potential to be a new folk pop hit. Let’s spin it and share it!

Henry Chadwick – “Bloodshot”
-There’s a chill energy to this track that might make people think it’s more folk than indie pop. Just stick with the track because when you get to the chorus you can feel that pop energy take over. It’s a song that has a “feel good” vibe without feel good lyrics, yet it works. The juxtaposition is engaging. The falsetto vocal on the bridge and overall unconventional composition reminds me a bit of Rusty Clanton’s brand of sad folk music. This isn’t the kind of pop that will fill the dancefloor, but it’s the kind of pop that resonates with listeners in our own separate spheres, feeling deep feelings and singing right along. For fans of Rusty Clanton, Adam Melchor, and Dodie Clark.
