Three Captivating Singer Songwriters Who Bend Genres and Create Worlds

Alexander Biggs – “pocket protector”
-Every once in a while a song comes along that just disrupts the flow in the best way possible. Biggs has written a song that has that positively disruptive influence, using a piano as the baseline and unique atmospheric elements to set a different mood. The use of dynamics, rising and falling, punctuates the fascinating lyrical concept. With mentions of drug use and escapism, there’s a pleading sentiment, “I’m begging you, please don’t go” at the heart of the song. It feels significant. It feels real. It’s ultimately a heartbreak song, so I hope that listeners will take the time to lean in and really connect here.

Joe Hammill – “You Are the One I’ve Waited For”
-Right from the start, this song made me smile. The little chromatic elements in the melody feel comfortable and tickle right in the soul. Hammill’s songwriting has that charming romantic element to it, all while using deceptively complex musical structures to surprise the listener. The atmospheric elements make the track go from conventional feel good folk music into some sort of ethereal, emotive track that makes the subject of the track feel like a dream come true. I’m not sure if that’s what it’s suppose to evoke, but it sure did for me. If you’ve ever been in love, this song will connect. What a delight.

zelda – “17”
-I’ve never been a 17 year old girl, so it might seem like it would be hard for me to relate to this song, but alas… zelda is a great songwriter and I definitely connect with this sentiment. If you’ve ever felt the pain of unrequited love, this song is quite familiar. The acoustic guitar provides a cathartic base to the song, while the dramatic vocal performance evokes the sort of highs and lows of teenage emotions. It’s really quite an adventure of a song. The blending of the earthy folk acoustic with the genre-defying atmospheric work in the background allows the song to stand out from the crowd. This has all the elements of standout work and we’re happy to support this rising singer songwriter.
