SYML – “The Walker”
-Everything from the opening piano to the stunning vocal on this track demands the attention of the listener. The easy rhythmic structure in the opening causes a deep breath in the listener, with a palpable sense of tension rising to the midpoint of the track. Once the piano moves to a rapid and melodic structure, the lyrics urge the listener to “walk on with your burden” and the response, “I will walk with you.” I don’t know if this has spiritual connotations or not, but it sure feels like. This is a remarkable bit of imagery, depth, and sincerity. I love this one.
Luke Gard – “Somewhere Not Far From Here”
-The cathartic acoustic guitar from the opening of the song feels comfortable and engaging. Once the vocal enters, the song just feels right. The combination of the charming vocal style and the beautiful accompaniment makes the song feel like a warm hug. The timing of the song gives it that waltzing movement that’s sure to lull a lot of listeners deep into the sweet recesses of the track’s message. I’m not sure if this is about romance or just escaping, but it seems to be about getting away with someone just to be together. It’s definitely a vibe.
Children of Indigo – “Yesterday”
-If you’ve been around ETTG for any length of time, you know this sound is an immediate yes for us. We’ve loved and curated acoustic folk duos since day one. The hauntingly beautiful harmonies from the Children of Indigo certainly fit within the quintessential folk duo sound that we love to curate. The lyric, “pour me in again…” repeated throughout the song speaks to me about energy. The fact that, no matter the outcome, we must keep sharing who we are with the people in our lives. Despite the moving circumstances of our existence, we must continue sharing and loving no matter what. I find the lyrics a delightful encouragement and the instrumentation a sonic joy.
