Kai Bosch – “Tulips”
Youthful songwriter Kai Bosch has an old soul. His music has found praise worldwide with a diverse audience. Technically, we could classify it as lo-fi pop, but the songwriting transcends genre. Smooth and soulful, “Tulips” is absolutely alluring. Sonically it is tight, creative, and lovely. As a cynical music journalist, it takes a lot to get us moving or feeling. Yet, the miracle of the music of Bosch might be getting us to do both.
Maudlin Strangers – “Don’t Worry, I’m Fine”
The music from LA based Maudlin Strangers is indie rock at its best. Expressive and smooth, “Don’t Worry, I’m Fine” has a great hook carried by a soulful croon. We are reminded of acts like Arctic Monkeys in how the lyrics are firmly planted in both tongue and cheek. The artist wrote this about a recent burnout he felt and his recovery. In such a “modern” age of living, we can all relate to the story, while we dance to the artfully crafted groove.
The Sweet Kill – “Forbidden”
We are suckers for honest post punk. So it is no surprise it took all about ten seconds for us to decide to cover The Sweet Kill. Carrying the tradition of acts like Joy Division and The Cure, they have a strong Interpol feel vocally. Some acts in this genre are acquired tastes, and are difficult to connect to a larger audience. However, their sound is highly accessible, connecting to rock and indie genres alike. There is something for every music fan to love in the art of The Sweet Kill.
