Three new acoustic folk tunes that will help you feel a wide range of meaningful emotions

The Ballroom Thieves – “Right On Time”
-The Ballroom Thieves have honestly become a site favorite here lately. The indie folk sound they create feels like everything we loved about Mandolin Orange when they first emerged. The sound has elements of roots country blended with mid-century pop folk. The overall vibe is enjoyable and the vocals are always quality from the Ballroom Thieves. I get that they are a duo act and all, but if they ever need a third for harmonies I know a guy who sings a decent baritone… (ahem… it’s me). 🙂 Kidding, of course. This is an amazing track from an artist that has come to be a pretty much automatic “yes” from us. It’s a privilege to continue featuring their rise to prominence in indie folk music.

Luke Richard Powers – “Carolina”
-Everything from the acoustic guitar to the fiddle and the vocal harmonies all set a great mood on this track. It’s quintessential indie folk music. The mandolin riffs on the verses really pop as well. I appreciate how it seems to blend together traditional folk music with elements of bluegrass. It’s definitely a tune that feels like it has a connection to the traditions of Carolina music. Fans of the Avett Brothers will find a lot to like in this tune from Luke Richard Powers.

Luna Keller – “Swallow the Sea”
-There’s a haunting energy to the acoustic guitar that opens this track. The first line is, “oh what a mess to be broken…” Wow. The song captures an intimacy and connection. “The weight of the world, the clothes on the floor.” I won’t pretend to know the full context of the lyrical meaning here, but it’s certainly heavy and personal. This intimate acoustic folk song is poetic, sure to connect for some listeners who have felt this same sense of vulnerability. The haunting and mysterious style is perfect for the complexity of the emotional message. While this one is a bit on the melancholy side, it captures it quite well and may be a healing influence for some folks.
