Parade the Day – “Modern Day America”
-Well, this is probably a bit harder hitting of a lyrical theme than you are ready for today. Nevertheless, give it a spin if you’re a fan of pop punk. There’s a definitive moral quality to the lyrical content, calling people to consider the conditions of modern day America. The energy of the guitars is fantastic. The vocal has that quintessential pop punk soaring harmonies that make it a song that you just want to turn up on your discman… I mean ipod… I mean… um… phone speakers? You get the idea. This is a track that could have emerged in the year 2000, but here we are in 2023 and it absolutely rocks.
Youth in Revolt – “925”
-If you’re looking for a pop punk sound, give Youth in Revolt a spin. The energy on the chorus with the “nah nahs” just makes you feel young again. It’s the kind of song that feels like it was made to be belted out by a crowd full of strangers at a punk venue with sticky floors and graffiti on the walls. “Let’s give them something to sing along” is literally the key lyric to the song. This is a track that encapsulates the pop punk kid aesthetic so incredibly well. It’s also about turning your life around and making the choice to turn away from some of the negative aspect of that old life even if you despise the 9-5 of your current life. It combines nostalgia, responsibility, and good old fashioned soaring punk vocals.
