Three indie folk tracks that bring peace this autumn season

Ocie Elliott – “Come On By”
-I lost track of how many times I’ve written about Ocie Elliott at this point. It’s easy to hear what I like about their music so much. This folk duo continues to bring a tender, joyful style of indie folk music that manages to creep right into my soul. It’s the kind of music that reminds me why I’m a folk fan. The invitation at the heart of the lyrics here is wonderful. “Come on by… wake me up to be kind.” For me, it’s the tenderness of the track and recording that works so well. It’s perfect for an autumn playlist.

Hollow Coves – “Letting Go”
-It’s time to leave everything behind. It’s time to move on. This is a song that takes on nostalgia with both hands, making the conscious decision to “turn the page.” Wow, let me just say I can definitely relate to these lyrics about the importance of acknowledging good things from your past but making the clear choice to let it go and move on. The easy going indie folk energy here reminds me of the type of cool harmony-driven sound that I’ve always liked about iconic 60s folk artists. There’s a lightness and bright beauty to this song that gripped me from first listen. I’ll be listening to this one all season and I “hope you feel the same.”

Ben Reneer – “Give Me A Reason”
-The acoustic energy of this track stuck out to me right away. As I sit here writing on a rainy fall day, I can say that the lyrics definitely connect. The atmospheric effect on the choral “give me a reason not to go” resonates through the song with great precision. The dynamic lyrical phrasing works well to keep the song moving forward. This is such a gift in a song; it says what it means while keeping the track evolving. Reneer’s style and songwriting remind me of Dylan Leblanc’s acoustic style and storytelling. This is an emotional, meaningful track that you’ll want to add to your rotation.
