bb sway – “How will I get there?”
-If you’re a fan of alt pop music, you’ll find a lot to like about bb sway’s style. This track is on another level, to be honest. It’s got a groove to die for and some really intriguing lyrics. The production is fantastic. It’s about coping with a relationship that ended too soon and trying to envision a life where you don’t feel super influenced by the loss. It’s a heartache song that goes down incredibly smooth with some of the most amazing groovy pop hooks I’ve heard in 2023. This is an absolute jam and deserves a ton of plays!
Erica Dawson – “Million to one”
-I am an absolute sucker for the acoustic uke intro and a fantastic lead vocal. There’s a clarity to Dawson’s vocal here that makes it absolutely soar. The rising tension in the track makes the listener feel like something big is coming as the song progresses. This is what big time pop music is all about; it creates dynamics of emotion that move the listener from start to finish. The lyrics seem to be about betting on yourself even at long odds of being successful. That’s relatable in our world today, but it’s all about this positive spin and working towards the goals you set for yourself.
cool girl island – “LA lullaby”
-This track combines two things that I rarely hear together; it’s a timeless, classic vocal mixed with a contemporary indie pop song construction. The end result is what you might imagine a classic early 20th century jazz vocalist making in the present day. The vocal is absolutely exceptional on this track and the overall style is soothing in the best way. If you’ve ever felt yourself being emotionally overwhelmed and just wanting to stay in for the night, this song is for you. It’s a cool, calm style you’re sure to want for your own alt pop playlist.
