Three Americana tracks that are sure to bring joy to your late March

Carolyn Kendrick – “Walker Clay”
-If you like throwback pop stylings with a jazzy charm, check out “Walker Clay” by Carolyn Kendrick. The phrasing on this song is so absolutely delightful. Each line feels conversational and comfortable. The vocal harmonies are wonderful as well. This reminds me of the kind of music that doesn’t pay attention to generational differences; it’s good, classic songwriting that any generation can appreciate. Sounds of the 20th century permeate this nostalgic and charming track.

Charlotte Morris – “Tennessee”
-When a song starts with a line about a pickup truck and back roads, I have an almost reflex-style reaction to say no thanks. But with this song, the very next phrase mentions Joni Mitchell. That same experience kept happening with every line of the song, getting more and more into the story. I really appreciate the way the sweet lyrics blend with an equally sweet lead vocal. The chromatic chord progression really draws the listener into the warmth of the song. And check out this line. “This ain’t what the write about it movies… just booze and passion mixed with lonely nights.” Whew. I don’t care who you are that’s good songwriting and is very relatable. If there was justice in this cold and forbidding world, this song would chart on country radio.

Brittany Ann Tranbaugh – “Can’t wait no rush”
-Fans of rock-influenced countrified Americana music are going to find a lot to like from Tranbaugh’s sound. The expressive vocal is really high quality. The overall style of the song gives a feeling of sitting in an off the beaten path bar listening to country deep cuts with salt of the earth folks. The “doot doo” section of the track gives it a lighter, poppy feel for a break. However, the substance of the track has a sort of Amanda Shires meets Sheryl Crow approach to rock-flavored Americana. We’re sure some of our listeners are going to absolutely love this one.
