Three new folk tracks for your late August music rotation

Basset – “Change of time”
-The calming acoustic sentiment is captivating on this track. The vocal ushers in thought provoking lyrics. The folk harmonies, though, are what really won my heart over with this song. The duo remind me a little of the Milk Carton Kids blended with a Rawlings/Welch style as well. It’s an outstanding sound that’s bound to be a fit for a lot of folk and Americana fans who follow our site. Close your eyes and listen; I bet these harmonies will give you chills.

Jason Bajada – “Walt Disney”
-There’s an understated folk energy to this track’s opening that I like, but once the piano enters the track it feels a dash more pop… and I mean that in a good way. The energy of the track feels a bit like it could be in a musical. I appreciate the chord progressions and changes in the song. The “drive down Sunset Boulevard under the California sun” line illustrates exactly what I mean; these chord changes are enough to make Brian Wilson proud. The lyrics are intriguing as well. The whole song is an adventure and well worth your time to explore, especially if you like the folk and folk pop realm.

JeSuisJoe – “Take it easy”
-Fans of acoustic folk music will find a lot to like from this track, “Take it easy.” The opening acoustic guitar work is good, but the chorus has some really delightful harmonies that definitely connect. The song feels like it takes it easy, helping the melody and lyrical vibe to have wonderful cohesion. The lyrics are about giving each other some grace as we go through life. Although the song is ostensibly about romantic connections, the sensibility is applicable to everyone; give people grace and hope that they’ll give it back to you. Take it easy. This one goes down smooooooooooth.
