GRAE – “Slow Down”
The electro pop of GRAE is everything good about the genre. Seductive vocals mixed with slow burning beats, “Slow Down” is the perfect late night jam your life needs right now. Showing the perfect restraint on instrumentation, the artist shows a maturity that is rare within the genre. It payoff too. “Slow Down” is one of our favorite finds in the last few weeks. If you are a fan of textured and alluring indie pop then this is a must hear.
Sleepy House – “Concussed”
These current times feel dizzying. It is easy to feel off and even concussed by the unknown. In times like these, it has helped to discover new music. The new track by Sleepy House has a dreamy quality that helps us to relax and get back to center. The duo mix soul and lo-fi pop to make a sonic balm for our worried hearts. As the track developed, we were reminded of another criminally underexposed act As Tall As Lions. The mix of sounds is incredible and needed.
Josa Barck – “The Future”
The music of Denmark artist Josa Barck is pure escapism. With a textured exploration of genre and style, “The Future” offers a danceable vibe that should spin more than a few times in your home office. Part Talking Heads and part Prince, it feels like the only objective from the artist is to unleash both your endorphins as well as your hips. We greatly appreciate this track for the unmitigated joy it provides us.
Penny Harlow – “Lightning”
We desperately wish to rock again. Luckily, bands like LA’s Penny Harlow exist. Carried along by sharp guitars and anthemic drums, “Lightning” slowly burns while making listeners want to hear more of the cocksure vocals. If you dig bands that offer an rocking alternative to what gets passed as “top 40 rock”, then we just found you a new favorite act.
Mondo Cozmo – “Upside Down”
There are few acts that continue to surprise and impress us as Mondo Cozmo. The same artist who created the Dylan-esque folk anthem “Shine”, is the same artist who can switch gears entirely with a tune like “Upside Down”. The soulful pop track shows just how expansive his sound is, as well as how talented. His music, regardless of genre, typically has a sort of bite to it and this one is no different. It could be interpreted as a social commentary, but it also can be a piece of indie pop goodness. This depends on the listener. Either way, it is the perfect track for days like these.
