Featured Single: Mara Connor – “No Fun”

It’s a vintage sound that is the antithesis of the song’s title. Instead of “no fun” this track is actually a ton of fun. I love the Beatles-esque chord progression and overall enjoyable vibe here. The production spares no expense, including some excellent string work in the background. Even the full band vocals sound like they are straight out of the 60s.

It’s really hard to get “vintage” right, but Mara Connor’s style is one that I intend to follow very closely. There’s a freshness to it that makes it feel exciting and not derivative. I feel the same way about this track as I did Jeremy Messersmith’s throwback sound last year. That’s good company since I picked that album as my album of the year. Hmm…
