Thursday Jams: Bandini, Dulio, and Penguin Show Diverse and Exciting New Sounds

Dulio – “Little Yellow Sliver”

You ever stay up late at night and think, “what if the modern sound of Bleachers had a one-night stand with Joy Division and had a baby?” Well, if you have, this is your jam. The melancholy love child of touring troubadour Mike Toohey, this is the second single off of his soon to be released self-produced album. There are a lot of bands that try to mix the throwback electro and new wave sound with little success. Dulio is able to generate a modern throwback that gives you all the feels. But don’t just take our word for it. Bandini – “Little Room”

Listeners are not going to uncover much on this artist. He is purposely enigmatic, and this is an incredible feat in an age of over-sharing. The singer songwriter has an extraordinary knack for crafting vulnerable and intentional tales of modern life set to a dreamy lo-fi sound. This is the UK songwriter’s first release and is a perfect illustration of his talents. Penguin – “Not A Problem”

This track from the UK rockers is absolutely relentless. Their guitar tone alone is cause to put you on blast. Their sound is forward looking and backwards from traditional indie sensibilities. They get compared to The Flaming Lips and this suits them more with each listen. “Not A Problem” is a layered and transcendent tune that will gain them the notoriety they deserve. This is a band to watch.
