The UK has always been home of young and talented rockers. The recent ascension of acts like Royal Blood and Arctic Monkeys have brought a renewal of this rich musical tradition. Influenced by bands like these as well as American acts like Kings of Leon, the UK band The Young Braves blend the rock and roll lineage of both continents with a blend of pop sensibilities. The indie pop rock four piece embodies their name. Both young as well brave, these teens have the sound of a more mature act on their tight four song self titled EP.
Opener “Black Country” is a Scars on 45 type jam that builds into a menacing carnival type guitar groove. The band blends nicely on what is my favorite track on the album. It is a great showcase to their mature songwriting and arrangement. “Youth” is a perfect antithesis to this track as it creates a more relentless and hopeful atmosphere, complete with an extraordinary instrumental toward the end of the track. It is the perfect pop tune that it sure to rally fans to their sound while the grunge infused “Long Time Coming (Watch It)” shows a growing instrumental and varying vocal styles.

Recently the band has garnered enough buzz to score an opening slot for Midwest blues-rock act The Black Keys that was earned by a relentless work ethic as well as a picturesque video for their single “For the Day”. This is the bands audio calling card that mixes synth and backing female vocals to create the first hit of their young career. It also shows their patience in that it doesn’t rush into the song but allows it to develop fully. This is a disciplined talent that is rare for a band their age. Songs like these make listeners eager to see where this talented act goes from here.
