5 “I Can’t Wait Until It’s November 7th” Songs

If you’re like me, you can’t wait until it’s November 7th and the election is over. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely hope it goes one way, but I almost just want it to be over either way, so we can move on. If you’re sick of listening to the political posturing, allow me to float a few non-political, though angry, thought and cause driven songs by your ears.

1) “How Come” by Ray LaMontagne

LaMontagne is one of the best singer-songwriters of our generation and I say that unequivocally. He’s a unique and emotional musician who keeps getting better. “How Come” is off of his debut album, Trouble.

2) Amos Lee – Freedom

Well, Amos Lee is another one of our finest songwriters. His voice may be the smoothest in music today and the type of soul and touches of funk that he brings are almost impossible to find in this quality anywhere else. “Freedom” was actually inspired by the elementary school kids he used to teach.

3) Come Gather Round Us – Freedom or Death

One of my favorite albums last year was Come Gather Round Us’s Despair. When I first heard their awesome songwriting, I was blown away. None of the songs on the album hits a nerve about this time of year quite like “Freedom or Death”.

4) Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons – “Times Never Change”

This one is from one of my/our favorite albums this year. Cory Chisel created an official video for this one using the Wisconsin protests as the backdrop. It’s a great song and a very cool video.

5) Noah Gundersen – “Jesus, Jesus”

Thanks to Greg for introducing me and all of you to Noah Gundersen and his incredible songwriting. The first time I heard this song, I almost cried. It’s beautiful and sad and incredible and awful and it breaks your heart. It’s frankly one of the best songs I’ve ever heard.
