The Two Best Tracks We Heard Today

Layne – “The Fog”

The synth on this one is especially gripping. The sound of this duo provides just enough nostalgia to break  your heart before coming in with a refreshing wave of rising electro pop. The vocals of lead-singer / guitarist Layne Putnam is fits perfectly into this wall of sound the LA group produces almost flawlessly. Their debut EP entitled The Black Hills is an exploration of sounds both new and old. They have something special here.

VISSIA – “You Should Be Sleeping”

This one stays with you. The sound of this Canadian songwriter perfectly captures a vintage sound that is highly compelling. She mixes what many might recognize as the California sound of the 1970’s with her own vulnerable and crushing soulful vocals. We think of artists like Dawes and Lake Street Dive when we play (on repeat) her tracks. There is a subtle artistry to her approach that is near impossible to deny. Her debut album, Placeholder, is due out in November and should continue to break hearts and soothe souls. “It’s partly about the emotional subtleties between people” explains the artist. “I am notorious for my lack of openness about how I feel, face to face, but my songwriting is lyrically-driven, and I feel I can place my trust there. Also, the album took four years to write and each song holds a meaningful moment or place from that time.” We are sure you will dig this one.
