The Nashville four-piece Creature Comfort expand the limits of what is musically possible. They may single handedly be a perfect example of why we hate genre labels. While in one moment you will find yourself relating to their style of emotional indie rock, the next jazz flavored experimental instrumentation will blow you away. One of the reasons we love “Common John (Southern Shame)” is how it treks through these artificial labels before launching into a psychedelic ending. While some bands with this many influences can tend to get too niche, Creature Comfort are able to exhibit the perfect amount of restraint in forming a concise but expansive sound that will be sure to make musical technicians fall in love. They describe this particular track as being a study of growing up liberal in a more conservative southern culture. There are definite glimpses to this within its lyrics, but the expanse of the song can affect many listeners in different ways. They have impassioned political leanings we sincerely appreciate. Their sound will continue to win fans and wow audiences this summer.
