Quick Hits: Ben Kyle / Radical Face

I decided to resurrect the Quick Hits feature for this week.  There were two albums that I ran across streaming this week that just seem like our readers would enjoy.

Acoustic

First we have Ben Kyle’s self titled album.  He’s got a great acoustic style.  AOL seems to think he sounds like John Mayer, which is probably an insult to them both.  Kyle has a great sound and excellent pop writing chops.  He’s probably more in the Jason Mraz vein than John Mayer if I had to decide.  Either way, he’s definitely pop acoustic.  Give ’em a try.

Folk Rock

Ok so I’m not sure what genre to call Radical Face.  They are not purely acoustic, but they don’t seem to fit neatly into the broader category of rock.  They are good, if even in their short EP Always Gold, which includes three versions of the same song.  Spinner says they sound like The Head and the Heart and I profoundly disagree with that.  I think, rather, they have a well-balanced but still-evolving folk rock sound.  They are a band to keep an eye on, though, as they will undoubtedly be around for a long time.
